We are in Barolo, in the Langhe
and the King of Wines was born here.

Marchesi di Barolo

WINERY

We have vineyards in the town of Barolo, in the Langhe area, in Roero and in Monferrato Nicese. We have been making wine and aging it in the ancient cellars of Marchesi di Barolo, where we welcome wine lovers who want to taste the history, scents and expressions of this legendary wine, Barolo: the King of Wines, the Wine of Kings.

Pietro Abbona - Marchesi di Barolo
Among the personalities related to Barolo wine, some can be considered historical figures, true pioneers […]. The first one is Commendatore Pietro Abbona, the real patriarch of Barolo […], the unquestioned forerunner who made the wine from his land known all over the world. His casks (some of which can be still admired in the cellars in the town of Barolo) were part of the estate of Marchesa Falletti. Commendatore Abbona inherited a tradition and a love for vineyards, cellars, and wine. Thanks to him, his label – which represented the Barolo and Serralunga castles – was brought everywhere, reaching even the farthest tables. It is with great pleasure that we give him credit for this. WE HAVE BEEN MAKING WINES IN THE LANGHE FOR SIX GENERATIONS

Today, with Ernesto and Anna, and their children Valentina and Davide, winemaking has been in our family for six generations.

6 generazioni di Barolo
After buying the ancient cellars of Marchesi di Barolo in 1929, we have devoted ourselves to the activity that Marchesi Falletti had started at the beginning of the 19th century, as faithful interpreters of the rich diversity of these places, vineyards, and varieties.
6 generazioni di Barolo
Our knowledge of the territory, together with our respect for varietal purity, has increasingly led us to focus on a specific management for each vineyard parcel. It is our winemaking principle to use the grapes separately, in order to keep their characteristics intact.

OUR HISTORIC CELLARS

For the last two centuries, in keeping with the evolution of the grapes and the wine, the spaces have improved, too. They have been partially turned into comfortable rooms where you can taste, savour and, at the same time, immerse yourself in history and culture.
The cellars where we age our wines today are the same where Barolo wine was created thanks to an intuition of Marchesa Giulia Falletti Colbert. With consistent and meticulous restoration, the five centuries-old casks that belonged to her (“Botti della Marchesa”) are still perfectly intact and efficient.

An exclusive collection of Barolo riserva, from rare vintages going back to the end of the 19th century to the most recent ones, is carefully preserved in the same place where the wines were created.

FROM VINEYARD TO GLASS

Barolo, but also Barbaresco, nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis, and Moscato.

We know the origins of every wine, its soil, the details of its path from vineyard to glass and the specific character it develops in the meantime.
